Do you have to pay sales tax when you buy a house?

    Not specifically… or at least, I don’t think so, but there are lots and lots of fees that you pay on top of the price of the house.

    Yes, those would be closing fees. But sales tax on a $400k house would be….. $36k in WA. I hope there’s not sales tax—I don’t think there is cuz I’ve never read anything about it.

    But closing fees are like another $8k or so, I think. And that’s not including the realtor fee.

    Yeah, but most mortgage companies will let you role those into the loan. I don’t know though, I didn’t pay them.

    No sales tax. Just fees upon fees. You don’t have to pay the broker – the seller will pay those fees. But the closing costs are killer. You can definitely get them wrapped into your mortgage loan though.
