To a non-programmer, what programmers do must seem like a magic act. We mutter various incantations into our keyboard like

 @password =~ /^\d{6}$/ 
and out pops websites and graphical interfaces and sounds.

It also must be weird to hear our seemly random estimates about how long a given task will take and how difficult it might be. “ure, giving each user points for buying something on a Tuesday, piece of cake. Ten minutes tops. And then there’s Oh, you want that bar to be two different colors?? I don’t know if that’s possible.

    You are exactly right. I do think it’s magic. I can hardly write eBay auctions in html.
